Biography
David ben Boʿaz ha-Nasiʾ, known in Arabic as al-Raʾīs Abū Saʿīd, was a fifth-generation descendant of ʿAnan ben David. As Nasiʾ, he belonged to a dynasty that claimed descent from King David. He thus enjoyed the prestige of Davidic dynasts and their association with messianic anticipation. His floruit dates to the second half of the 10th c. CE. According to Ibn al-Hītī, he was still alive in 993, when he composed a commentary on Ecclesiastes. He was succeeded by his son Solomon, who is known to have served as Nasi in 1016.
His works include commentaries on the Pentateuch (including an extensive commentary on Leviticus), Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, and Psalms. Besides, he authored several Hebrew liturgical poems. Fragments of his work on theological fundamentals ( Kitāb al-uṣūl ), mentioned by Ibn al-Hītī, have tentatively been identified.
He is credited for being the first Qaraite scholar to oppose the catenary theory of forbidden marriages ( tarkīb , rikkūv ) upheld by earlier Qaraite authorities.

While Moritz Steinschneider (1816–1907) is primarily known for having laid the modern foundations of Jewish bibliography, he also devoted himself to a systematic survey of Jewish literature. In Steinschneider’s work the investigation of Jewish writings in Arabic takes a central place. In 1845, he proposed to the Verein für Kultur und Wissenschaft der Juden his magnum opus , a “Jüdisch-Arabische Bibliothek” (Steinschneider, Die arabische Literatur , xlvii). It was well received, and he obtained modest funding for it. It seems that the first part, the Bibliotheca Judaeo-Arabica , which consisted of a chronological survey of Judeo-Arabic literature, had already been completed in 1845. It contained a short biographical sketch of each author known to Steinschneider, arranged chronologically, and an account of their works, including details of available manuscripts and translations, mainly taken from unpublished sources. However, it only reached publication some sixty years later with the appearance of his seminal series of articles “An Introduction to the Arabic Literature of the Jews,” which appeared in 1897–1901 in the Jewish Quarterly Review , and also his Arabische Literatur der Juden (1902), which Steinschneider rightly calls in its foreword his “Lebensarbeit” (p. viii). The former, in which he describes his arduous search for manuscripts throughout Europe, serves as a voluminous introduction to the latter. The Arabische Literatur der Juden is divided into seven sections: (1) Jewish authors in Ancient Arabia; (2) Jewish authors in the East until the end of the Geonic period (1040); (3) Jewish authors in the Muslim West; (4) Jewish in the East, 1041–1500; (5) later Jewish authors (1500–1894); (6) Jewish authors of uncertain date; and (7) anonymous Jewish authors according to subject.

Samuel Abraham Poznański (1864–1921) was a scholar of Polish-Jewish descent, renowned for his research on Karaism and the Hebrew calendar. He was a pioneer in Judeo-Arabic studies, a Hebrew bibliographer, and a recognized authority on contemporary and historic Qaraism. Additionally, he served as a rabbi at the Great Synagogue in Warsaw.
Poznański harbored a profound aspiration to compile a biographical dictionary of Qaraite scholars and a historical dictionary of Qaraite literature, considering them the apex of his scholarly endeavors. Unfortunately, his sudden demise thwarted the
realization of these ambitions, and he only managed to publish a limited number of bibliographical essays on the subject. The draft of his Encyclopedia of Qaraites is today found in the Samuel Poznański Archive at the National Library of Israel (ARC 4﹡ 1180, Series 5). Given the current condition of the archive, referencing specific pages or files is not feasible. The entries are primarily organized by first names.

1) תרגום ערבי ופירוש על התורה. נמצא ממנו חלק לשמות כ"ה:א' עד ל"ג:י"ג בכ"י בבריטיש מוזיאום (רשימת מרגליות ח"א סי' 304) כתוב כולו (ואף גוף המקרא והמלות העבריות שבו) באותיות ערביות. העתק חדש מפירושו לשמות כלו ימצא בבית כנסת הקראים בירושלים (עי' הרכבי, חדשים גם ישנים ו' סי' כ"ה). החלק לויקרא ולהמחצית השניה של דברים ימצא בכ"י בפטרסבורג (עי' הרכבי, ZATW I:157). והנה בכ"י הנ"ל בבריטיש מוזיאום יכונה דוד על ידי מעתיק מאוחר בכנוי אבו סעיד (אשר בו יתכנה תמיד בין חכמי הקראים הראשונים לוי בן יפת, עי"ע) וקרוב הוא כי הוא גם אותו אבו סעיד אשר נודע ממנו באוצר הספרים הנ"ל תרגום ופירוש ערבי לבמדבר כ"ה:י' עד ל':א' (סי' 3052, גם כן כלו באותיות ערביות), לבמדבר כ"ב-כ"ט ולדברים ט"ז, י"ז, כ"ג, כ"ד, ול"ב (סי' 307) ולנכון גם התרגום לדברים כ"ב:ה' - כ"ט:ט' (סי 3332). ואמנם אם יש ליחס אליו עוד חלקים שונים מפירוש ארוך בערבית לויקרא באוצר הספרים הנ"ל (סי' 3051, 306, 3181) זה מוטל בספק. הקראי טוביה בן משה (עי"ע) לקח לו ליסוד מוסד בפירושו לויקרא "אוצר נחמד" (כ"י באוקספורד רשימת נייבויאר סי' 290, ועי' REJ 34:167) את דברי דוד בן בועז שקוראהו "הנשיא" ואת דברי יפת בן עלי שקוראהו "המלמד" והוא קורא את שניהם בשמם פעמים אין מספר עד כי יוכל הספר הזה להיות גם הוא למקור לדעת מתוכו פירושי דוד בן בועז ודעותיו. גם שאר הדברים המובאים בשמו אצל מחברי הקראים (והם מלבד הנקובים כבר עוד: ישועה בן יהודה, יעקב בן ראובן (ספר העשר), אהרן הראשון והשני, אליהו ומשה בשייצי) נובעים בלי ספק מפירושו לתורה. ואמנם שמחה יצחק לוצקי (ארח צדיקים כ"ה ב' בערכו) ידעו רק מפי השמועה. בפירושו זה נלחם דוד הרבה עם סעדיה אשר יכנהו בשם "זה האיש" (הד'א אלרג'ל), גם מביא הרבה את דברי רז"ל וקוראם בשם אלרבאנין או אלאולון (הראשונים). ואמנם אופן וכוחו אינו יוצא מגדר הנימוס. אף יביא את המתרגמים (אלמתרג'מון) ואת בעלי הדקדוד (אהל אללגה);
2) פירוש על קהלת. נתחבר לפי אבן אלהיתי הנ"ל בשנת 993. חלקים ממנו ימצאו לפי השערת מרגליות ברשימתו בכ"י בריטיש מוזיאום סי' 299. והנה כ"י זה מכיל גם כן חלקים מפירוש ערבי לאיכה והיה אם תצדק ההשערה כי אז נוכרח לומר כי חיבר דוד עוד;
3) פירוש על איכה. אבל עוד הדבר צריך חזוק;
